Many people wonder how to make hair bows, and decide it is too complex for them to do. This though is not true there are many simple bows that can be made. My personal favorite though is the Pinwheel Bow, taking its name from the toy pinwheels. So how to make hair bows?

Using 40 “of 1.5” grosgrain ribbon take a 4” strip of face up ribbon. This 4” strip is then given a half twist and fold over to form a loop. Using a further 3” on the opposite side, create another loop. This should be repeated until there are a couple of loops on both sides of the bow. Then measure out a further 4” and cut it of.

Take a 10” length of floral wire and interlace across the bow’s center, fixing down firmly. Pulling one tail down and one up, cut 45-degree angle at the ribbon ends. Pull the bow into shape by pulling up the double loops. The last 4” of ribbon is then folded to 7/8” wide. Using a hot glue gun glue this to the bow’s center, and then glue it to the back of the bow. To finish the bow off, hot glue a hair barrette to the reverse of the bow.

The Pinwheel bow is best used for those with medium or longer hair.

So if you are contemplating how to make hair bows then just follow this simple instruction and you will have made your first bow.
